Adopted for Life

Two days ago, I finished a book entitled Adopted for Life. Dr. Russell D. Moore of Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY, authored the book, and he did an outstanding job.

I hesitate to write this entry because, frankly, I am at a loss for words. I told MSH this same fact, and he replied, "Is it really that good? I mean, really?"

YES! It IS REALLY THAT GOOD!! I tweeted Dr. Moore while I was reading it and after I had finished, and everything I wanted to say to him wouldn't fit into 140 characters on Twitter.

The book is about "the priority of adoption for Christian families and churches." Moore explains the process he and his wife, Maria, went through to adopt their two oldest boys, Benjamin and Timothy. The story of their two boys is enough to break your heart and make you see our own spiritual adoption by the Father in a whole new light.

I want to tell you all about this book, but it would almost be like me telling you an abridged version of a story that you should go and read for yourself. One day, maybe long into the future when I am fully able to understand all Moore talks about in this book and the impact reading it had on my own life, I will write another entry about it. But for now, all I can say is...plead with you to...read this book.

As MSH and I discuss our future and our family, we can now confidently say that we are called by God to adopt children who are abandoned by one or both parents. We can say that confidently. We know we are called to it, and reading this book allowed me to make sense of the jumbled thoughts I had of why I wanted to adopt. No, I am not barren (that I know of), and MSH and I are both fully capable of producing offspring, but we believe in our heart of hearts that God has called us to this mission field, and we will walk confidently into it when God says the time is right.

Dr. Moore nails it with this one, I would highly recommend anyone and EVERYONE to read this book. If you can't afford it, borrow it-- go get it from a library somewhere, but please trust me when I say YOU NEED...not just should, but NEED...TO READ THIS BOOK!

Trust me.

  2. Hey Whitney! I just saw "adopted" in your status and had to see what it was about. I am definitely going to get this book. Did you know that we are in the process of adopting? We're adopting from Russia. I would LOVE to share more about our adoption if you ever want to chat. We can give you guys some ins and outs of the process and some what we wish we had known type things. Hope you're doing great! :)
