Happy Independence Day!

Happy Birthday, America, and Happy Independence Day to you, Americans! Since we Americans eat so much on the 4th of July, I thought I'd share an all-American recipe with you...a homemade ice cream recipe! I made this for my family at the beach, and they loved it! It is such a creamy recipe, and my favorite. Hope you enjoy!!!

For a 4 quart maker, this is the recipe:
2 1/4 cups sugar
1/4 plus 2 T flour
1/2 t salt
5 c milk
4 eggs, beaten
4 c whipping cream
2 T vanilla extract

Combine sugar, flour and salt in a saucepan. Gradually stir in milk. Cook over medium heat, approx. 15 min. or until thickened, stirring constantly.

Gradually stir about 1 cup of hot mixture into beaten eggs. Add egg mixture to remaining hot mixture, stirring constantly. Cook 1 minute; remove from heat. Refrigerate 2 hours. Combine whipping cream and vanilla in a large bowl; add chilled mixture, stirring with wire whisk to combine. Freeze as directed in ice cream maker.
