marriage supper of the Lamb

"Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the roar of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, crying out, "Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. 7Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; 8 it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure"—

for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.

9And the angel said to me, "Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the marriage supper of the Lamb." And he said to me, "These are the true words of God." 10Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, "You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God." For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

-Revelation 19:6-10

One afternoon a few weeks ago, Mat came home as I was in the kitchen cooking supper. We were both talking about the events of the day and whatnot-- both of us were just having a wonderful time catching up after a long day of being apart. At some point, and I wish I could remember the context to give you a more clear picture of what went on here, Mat turned to me and said, "Hey Whitney, know what I was thinking about today?"

"What, babe?" I said.

"The Marriage Supper of the Lamb," he replied.

Cool, I thought. But Mat went on...

"And do you know what I thought about when I thought about the Marriage Supper of the Lamb?" he said to me.

"No, what?" I said.

"I thought, I really hope I get to sit by Whitney," he replied.

And then, my heart melted. It absolutely melted. I...am...blessed.

Sometimes, it's really hard being married. Sometimes, it's really REALLY hard being married. Mat doesn't put his boxers in the hamper before he gets in the shower. Mat likes the toilet paper coming under, not over like I do. Mat hates beans in chili, and I love beans in chili. Mat loves to listen to music while we study, and I abhor it. Mat likes whole bean coffee freshly ground, and I hate grinding beans in the morning. You get the picture.

And sometimes, I like being married. And other times still, I love being married.

But always always, I love being married to Mat. And it's not just because he tells me he wants to sit by me at the Marriage Supper of the Lamb...it's because of that reason and 438,972,016 more and counting. I'm so amazingly blessed by Jesus Christ that He has given me this earthly marriage to create a picture of His Marriage to His Church. How blessed! What a privilege! What an honor!

And, even though Mat and I will never know while we are here on this side of the Kingdom if we will get to sit by each other at the Marriage Supper, it is comforting to know that while I go through this life, I have a companion and a life-long best friend. Again, what a comfort given to me by our great God!

And how I anxiously await getting to be at the Marriage Supper where the Bride of Christ will be ready to be presented to Him-- dressed in fine white linen. (And who knows?!? You might just be sitting across from me and Mat at the supper!!)
