a place to work...and play.

We will hopefully be moving out to our new house soon, and with our new house comes 3 bedrooms: a bedroom for me and Mat, a guest bedroom (more affectionately called the mother-in-law Mumsy suite), and a SPARE bedroom. That spare bedroom can only mean one thing: Whitney gets an at-home office/ reading room.

With that said, I've been scouring the interwebs looking for great offices and reading rooms that are decorated well, of course. Here are some that I've found so far...

Which one is YOUR favorite? And please feel free to send me any inspiration if you should run upon any!

2 years ago TODAY

Two years ago today, I married Mat Alexander.

And it was the best decision I've ever made.

Thank you for being my best friend, my husband, and my companion, Matty. I love you with everything that I am. You are my whole world and everything in it. I praise God for you every single day.

And I think you're cute, too. Happy 2, babe. Here's to many more.

2 years ago tonight

Two years ago tonight, I was sitting on a hotel bed in Mobile, Alabama, folding wedding programs with my maid of honor, Anna, and her mom, Susan. We had just gotten back from the U.S.S. Alabama Battleship in the Mobile Bay, where the after rehearsal dinner for my wedding was held.

My then future parents-in-law threw a great party, complete with a fun band and amazing food. It was so incredibly hot on the ship, but it was so much fun, and I'm so thankful for them. (Love you, Chris and Valerie!!!!)

And of course, two years ago tonight was my last night as Whitney Vanessa Walker.

It's weird to think about that-- my name being Whitney Walker (without the Alexander after Walker).

I can't imagine life without Mat. It's weird to think about that, too. I don't like to think about that.

But, anyway, two years ago tonight, I wasn't married. And I was anxiously awaiting 2 o'clock p.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008, when I would get to marry my best friend in the entire world.

It was the best day ever.

spruce things up

Kelly from Fabulous K helped me spruce things up a bit here on the blog. I'm just in love with her work. Thanks for helping things look a little better around here, Kelly! I adore the design!!

There might be a few more small changes coming soon (such as a section on photography and whatnot), but this is the new design.

You'll notice two things:

First of all, I changed the name of our blog. The Web address is still the same (obviously), but I renamed the blog from "The Life and Times of the Alexander Family" to "Southern Grace." The new title is shorter, more simple, and very Southern.

Second, you'll notice there's a little bee up there next to our site name. For as long as I can remember, my grandfather has been a beekeeper, and that is something that was such a huge part of my childhood. Over the past few months, I've sort of adopted this "bee theme" to honor my Papa and his influence in my life. The man's a legend, and I love him with all of my being. (Love you, Papa!)

Anyway, I hope you enjoy looking at the new design as much as I do. Happy Saturday!

an early birthday wish

I'm sure there will be more posts about my birthday list, but until Oct. 15th rolls around, I thought I'd start out with this baby::

Michael Kors Horn Jet Set Watch.

I love. I love. I love.

And it's a pretty reasonable price, too.

I have one watch that I wear every single day-- a Swiss Army watch with diamonds around the face. I love my watch. But I think this one would be fun to wear with gold, and it's a little more casual, too. Perfect for the office.

Just a thought.

Hope you like the hint, Mum!

joe ley

Joe Ley Antiques is one of my favorite places on earth. I cannot even put into words how great this place is.

We went on Saturday, and I was so awe-struck, I forgot to make pictures (except for these three). Simply awing. Maybe the next time I go, I'll be able to get a hold of myself and make some photos so you can enjoy it, too. In the mean time, visit their Web site. Trust me.

one man's junk

I found this graceful beauty beside the dumpster at our apartments...

Isn't she beauitful?

I fell in love with her, and in an instant, my heart leapt at the thought of what she might become.

Even though right now, she is a mess and has been neglected, I will restore her and make her as good as new. She will be loved and cherished in our new home.

I have already given her a good cleaning, and I have removed her ragged red seat and cushion. As soon as we get out to Shepherdsville, I will be able to finish her up.

I can't wait to show you what she looks like after just a little TLC...

P.S.-- Did you spy Little One in two of these pictures??

happy birthday, brother!

To the one boy who has always been in my life...

Happy Birthday, Brother! I love you with every single ounce of my being.

I hope you have a wonderful 26th.

Love always,

favorite things friday

This week, I want to show you Lonny Magazine.

Lonny Magazine is a virtual interior design magazine that I found through an interior designer's Web site. I just love, love, love this on-line only magazine. You have to check it out!

Go here to view the latest edition of Lonny. Trust me. You'll be so glad you did.

great news!

Last week, I received some great news! I was offered a full-time job at Southern Seminary!! I am so excited, and I cannot wait to begin my new job in less than two weeks. My first day will be Friday, Aug. 20. I will be working in the vice president of enrollment management and student life's office. I am super pumped, and the office that I will be working in is right up my alley!

(Photo: mine, from my iPhone. Sorry for the poor quality.)

It's so wonderful to see how the Lord has been working things out for Mat and I over the past year. Sometimes, I get so frustrated and so annoyed (hey, I'm just being honest here!) with not knowing what in the world the Lord is doing, but time-after-time, He is good, and He is always sovereign. I praise the Lord-- and I praise the Lord again because I DON'T always know what He's doing. I'm thankful I don't!

Again, God is good. Always, always.

Once Mat and I get settled into our new house out in Shepherdsville, we/I are/am going to begin a new project. (I might begin it sooner, depending on a few variables yet to be determined...) We are praying about what direction the Lord would have us take concerning this new "project," and hopefully, we will be able to get it off the ground soon. (Special thanks to my sweet friend, Sarah Lovett, for her help here!)

A few weeks ago, some of us loaded up and went to Cincinnati to hit up Ikea. But, of course, you can't go to Cincinnati and not eat at Terry's Turf Club-- home of the best burger you've ever put in your mouth! Below is a pic of my precious friends: (l to r) me, Diana, Sarah Rice, Sarah Lovett, and Bekah. Bekah just moved here, so there are lots of fun times to come, I'm sure. I can't wait to get to know her better!

Since we moved to Louisville, the other 4 girls have become irreplaceable in my life. I am just crazy about each of them. I am so overjoyed to have them in my life. (Love you, gals! I praise God for you!)

(Photo: Mat-- he's learning so much!)

Mat and I bought a lot of stuff at Ikea-- 2 lamps, a mortar and pestle, a wok, some bottles, kitchen towels, a mail rack, a grater and a kitchen scale. All of that for a very, and I do mean very, affordable price. Thank you, Ikea!

But Little One's favorite "purchase" was the boxes our lamps came in. He was pumped to have a new house. Sham? Not so pumped...  Wouldn't even go near them.

I made this photo below of the house back in July, and I just never got around to sharing it. I love this picture, so I wanted to post it. This picture was made standing in the kitchen, looking out our back door (which is in the kitchen, off of the right side of the house). I love the fact that when I wake up in the mornings (after we move in), one of the first things I'll see is Sunnyside Baptist Church. Praise God!

 (Photo: mine)

All in all, life is good. Mat starts seminary in one week. I know he is so excited. This year, he'll be taking 12 hours of class, interning for Dr. Mohler still, be an ambassador for the seminary, and of course, still be the senior pastor at Sunnyside. I'm so proud of him. And he's cute. I'm super blessed. And super thankful.

See. I told you he was cute.
