The husband took me to Nashville last Friday, because the kind people at Southern Seminary give their employees paid vacation for their respective birthdays. Mine fell on Friday, the 15th, so we headed south to Tennessee for a short getaway.

Mat started off my day with a little gift (even though I had already gotten my big gift). Spoiler alert: in the blue and red bag was a little glass dish with bees on it. Perfect.

The ride to Nashville was beautiful. We even stopped for Sonic. Classy.

When we finally got to Nashville, we stopped first at the Mall at Green Hills, which holds our second favorite Brooks Brothers store. Mat also let me pick out a little something special from Kate...

We stayed in a hotel downtown that had seriously the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in in my entire life. I am still dreaming about it. It was so comfortable that I scratched Mat's back for over an hour, and that's quite an accomplishment for me. Ask Mat.

The view of downtown Nashville was great from our room. The building right in front of our window is the capital building.

Mat took me to dinner at Demos Steakhouse. It was so good. They even brought me a little birthday brownie out, and, thankfully, no one sang to me. Thankfully.

BUT...Mat did sing a little tune at the Grand Ole Opry Store on Honky Tonk Row. In case you can't make her out, that's Wynonna in the background on the TVs. "No One Else on Earth," baby. No one else...

It was so fun being downtown on a Saturday night. We walked past the Ryman. Beautiful building. Beautiful legacy.

The next day, Mat took me to a park close to Vanderbilt that has a large-scale replica of the Parthenon. We also decided to make pictures of our feet. I'm not sure why.

Oh, yeah. Mat's wearing ducks with ducks.

The Parthenon...

And us...

After we left the park, we went shopping a little more, and I had a giant allergy attack of some sort. I felt like dying. It was awful. So, Mat took me to eat at Burger Up, and coming around the corner seeing all these folks made me feel so much better...

I was so surprised! Mat had gotten both our families to come meet us for lunch...just for my birthday. It was so good to see my family. I'm still giddy about it. It was much needed, much too short of a visit, and much fun. I love my family more than anything.

I got way too many gifts-- money, a cute wallet, some small antique knick-knacks (which I will blog about later, no doubt), and some other things.

I also scored this baby; another huge surprise...

Have I told you how much I adore this woman? Well, it's true. She's my very best friend. I miss her so much. (Pretty cute pic, Mum. Love it...and YOU!)

We also had cake from Honey Moon Bakery in Rome. If you've not been, you're missing out. Get over there soon!

It was such a great birthday. It was so great to see the fam. It's the worst part about being in seminary so far away-- we never get to see them. But when we do, it's wonderful, and we cherish our time with them.

Thanks for the birthday wishes. It was a good one!

(To my family-- thanks for coming to Nashville to surprise me, and thank you for my gifts and for your love. I love each of you more than you'll ever know! To my Mat-- thanks for caring enough to surprise me with the best birthday gift ever [lunch with my family], and thank you for a fantastic weekend. I love you!)
